Martin Luther King Jr. and Frederick Douglass Essay -- Compare Contras
Martin Luther King Jr. also, Frederick Douglass When contrasting two expositions, there are various angles that the peruser can take a gander at to make decisions and assessments. In the two papers that I pick, MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. 'Letter from Birmingham Jail', and FREDERICK DOUGLAS'S 'From Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave,' there were numerous likenesses, yet additionally numerous distinctions. Some of them being, the unique circumstance, style, structure and tone. Commonly when readings or articles are being thought about, individuals over look the linguistic and auxiliary components, and simply focus on the current issues. I trust it is imperative to assess both. The two readings are about African American Men who are being oppressed. Frederick Douglass was brought into the world 1817 and kicked the bucket 1895. His story is about his excursion as a slave in Maryland. At the point when Douglass was placed into subjugation, he was with a paramour who had never possessed a slave, so it was all new to her. Mrs. Hugh Auld helped show Douglass how to peruse and compose, yet her significant other discovered and revealed to her that she ought not, for it was risky and unlawful (125). In spite of the fact that Mrs. Hugh Auld quit showing Douglass, he sufficiently realized to begin his own training and in the long run that lead him to opportunity. Through all of Douglass?s lessons, he understood that subjection negatively affected him. In spite of the fact that his training was clearly bravo, he had his questions. Before he was innocent to every one of that was going on around him and what he was engaged with. He clearly realized that he would not lik e to be a slave, however he didn't have the foggiest idea about the entirety of the data around and including it. As his instruction developed, so did his outrage and hatred for this world that... ...dge. Ruler utilizes his insight by social event individuals with similar convictions, to attempt to better the circumstances they were in. Douglass didn't utilize his insight to the extent that was conceivable. He assimilated more information as opposed to discharging it. So despite the fact that the two readings look genuinely comparable when looked over, there are a wide range of parts of the two papers, that give them capacity to give out information and foundation regarding a matter that was imperative to the writers. In Too Deep
In Too Deep Itâs easy to believe Earth turns slowly on its axis: itâs always there, and weâre a part of it, deep in the middle of its rotation. Consumerism is similar: itâs all around us, everywhere we turn, seemingly unstoppableâ"Hellâs self-consuming flame. But Earth doesnât turn slowly: itâs spinning at over a thousand miles an hour. This became easy for us to understand once we stepped back and paid attention, once we became aware of our surroundings. Similarly, we neednât look at all this mass-consumption and over-indulgence and believe itâs normalâ"itâs not. Things havenât always been this wayâ"this chaotic, this meaninglessâ"and the future neednât be, either. A sunrise is on the horizon, and we can see it once we open our eyes, become aware of whatâs important, and realize weâre in too deep. Subscribe to The Minimalists via email.

James Buchanan 15th President of the United States and...
James Buchanan was the fifteenth president of the United States and debateably the worst. Buchanan was said to have seemingly proficient ideas with poor results; although he was reportedly an intelligent and kind-hearted man, his actions in office were those of an un-educated kook. James Buchanan was born on April 23rd, 1791 in Cove Gap, Pennsylvania. Buchananââ¬â¢s parents James Buchanan Sr. and Elizabeth Speer were Ulster Scots; his father emigrated from Donegal, Ireland in 1783. He grew up with six sisters and four brothers in a log cabin until they moved to Mercersburg, Pennsylvania in 1797. Buchananââ¬â¢s educational career consisted of attendance to Old Stone Academy in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and Dickinson College (also in Carlisle, Pennsylvania) where he graduated with honors in 1807, he then moved to Lancaster and earned his law degree. In the War of 1812, Buchanan served in the defense of Baltimore and is known as the only president with military experience who never served as an officer. Although he claimed to love Anne Caroline Coleman, they were never married and after their breakup Buchanan sent the following letter to Corenelia Roosevelt which led people to question his sexual orientation. I am now solitary and alone, having no companion in the house with me. I have gone a wooing to several gentlemen, but have not succeeded with any one of them. Use Of Language Through Rhetorical Discourse - 1271 Words
Dad Language through rhetorical discourse does something and something was what I needed to do (Wardle and Downs 348). Iââ¬â¢m not one to share my feelings or show much emotion towards people or situations. However, if I were to, Iââ¬â¢ll put it in writing, whether itââ¬â¢s a text message or letter, just so I donââ¬â¢t have to show it or say it aloud and Iââ¬â¢ve always been this way. It was after my high school graduation and I was all set and ready to go to college after my entire family drowned me in graduation gifts and money. My father was nagging on me every single day to give out thank you notes to all those who were kind enough to give me presents as I went off to the University of Central Florida and live on my own which was two hours away fromâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He lives in Massachusetts and I see him only two times a year. If anyone knows a thing about family, itââ¬â¢s my dad. He grew up with fifteen brothers and sisters who all still live in t he same town as they were born in. He is the most selfless person Iââ¬â¢ve ever known. Heââ¬â¢s the type of person to give gifts on his own birthday and everyone who knows him, loves him for his unbelievable generosity. However, some of us take it for granted. He is thirteen hundred miles away from me and he is still so involved in my life and sometimes I forget how thankful I should be. He calls me at least three times a day and most of the time I ignore it because I definitely take his care for granted. But he would never show if he was hurt by it. He just calls until I answer. Even though it wasnââ¬â¢t my dad who sent me off to college and nothing really changed in his household, I knew something was hitting him in the heart when he thought of the fact that I was growing up and I was officially a college student living on my own. It was a hard time for him and he was calling me way more than usual. He needed something from me and I wasnââ¬â¢t giving him anything. He d idnââ¬â¢t feel my appreciation and I knew it was my turn to do something about it. PRICE RANGE OF PRODUCTS Free Essays
PRICE RANGE OF PRODUCTS Above is the price range of all Apple products between the years of 1975 to present. Steve Jobs manufactured products that were not just far advanced than other products in the same category, but they were also out of reach for most consumers. When Apple Computer launch its Apple II in 1977, it cost $1,298 and if you wanted a more powerful version it would cost you a twice that amount. We will write a custom essay sample on PRICE RANGE OF PRODUCTS or any similar topic only for you Order Now In 1984, Apple Computer released the Macintosh at a price of $2,495. At these prices many consumers could not afford to own a Macintosh. Upon Steve Jobs return to Apple Computer in 1984, Apple products price drop allowing most price conscious consumers to own a Macintosh. The new iMac carry a price of $1,300 which would cost $1800 in todayââ¬â¢s current dollar value. As technology advance, the price of Apple Computer products continued to decline. Since 1996, Apple had released the MacBook Air for $900 and MacMini for $600. (Felix Salmon, 2011) Apple now offers products in addition to Macintosh products. These products have been very profitable for Apple Computer. The products below are sold on Apple store online: Computer technology has enable manufacturers to build cheaper, higher-quality and more powerful computers that are also more accessible and affordable to the average consumer. For example, the iPad 2 has been compared to the 1980ââ¬â¢s Cray supercomputer, but at a price that millions of people can afford. Steve Jobs realized that technology had advance to a point that he could now make products that could not just deliver high quality but also be ââ¬Å"price accessible to the broad non-geek middle classes. He could not make his ââ¬Å"NeXT workstation which was value at $6500 in 1990, or $11,267 in 2011 ââ¬Å"which was placed on many workstations across the worldâ⬠at price that many not only be affordable but hard for competitors to match. For example, the iPad 2 price is $499 and the IPhone 4s is price at $199, both sold at competitive price that is hard to competitors to match and within the price range of most consumers. (Felix Salmon, 2011) PRICING OBJECTIVE S OF BRAND According to Steve Jobs, ââ¬Å"Apple is breaking the rules in terms of its pricing model,â⬠he told Reuters by telephone. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s doing what luxury brands do, where the higher price the brand is, the more it seems to underpin and reinforce the desire. â⬠ââ¬Å"Obviously, it has to be allied to great products and a great experience, and Apple has nurtured that. â⬠(David Cowell, 2012) After all Apple is a luxury brand that demand a premium price and Apple customers do are not looking to save money but to get the highest quality product in the market. This adds up to three main factors that help Apple keep the iPad and other Apple products price so low: 1. Apple stores ââ¬â Apple makes a large chunk of its iPad sales directly to its customers through the Apple retail stores and the online Apple store, which enables the company to keep even more of the profits. While running retail stores are expensive, Apple runs one of the most profitable retail businesses in the US and these direct sales give Apple the ability to directly follow up with customers to entice them with future upgrades. 2. Supply chain ââ¬â As others have explained, Apple has a major supply chain management advantage. That means that it controls the components that go into its product (and the price it pays for them) better than its rivals do. Apple makes the software, designs the chips, and buys flash memory and LCD displays in huge quantities (in combination with iPhones and iPods). That significantly whittles down the raw cost of each iPad. 3. The 3% factor ââ¬â Apple sells the iPad to retail partners at a minimal 3% discount (which is likely much lower than competitors). Because of the strength of Appleââ¬â¢s brand and the customer demand of the iPad, retailers are willing to take very little profit on iPad sales in order to drive store traffic and make money on add-on purchases like accessories and extended warranties. (Jason Hiner, 2011) Apple has been so successful by opening their own stores which has made a huge impact for iPad, when iPad2 was released CEO Steve Jobs said: ââ¬Å"One of the things that enabled us to roll out this technology so fast was our Apple retail stores. They were built for moments like this. They were built to take new technology and roll it out and educate customers about it and be there when they have questions and issues. We have hundreds of Apple stores now, as you know. This is one of our newest ones in Chicago [pointing to a slide]. And, without these stores I donââ¬â¢t think we would have been as successful either. â⬠[ (Jason Hiner, 2011) ] Alternatives tablets from other competitors have not be able to compete with Apple iPad and have had to cut their prices to retailer. Apple has taken notice and has taken advantage of its pricing strategy and has lowered the iPad price to its retailer. Motorola and Samsung may sell their tablets at 97% at retail price but if the product is not as desirable as the iPad the 97% may not make any difference. The margins are more like 5-15% off retail price for competitors. [ (Jason Hiner, 2011) ] DISCOUNT/ALLOWANCES Apple is not currently offering any discount for the iPad but has in the past offer student discounts. For example, it has offered students a discount of $200 for MacBooks. In 2011, Apple also offered a back to school promotion in which students could save about $229 and get a ââ¬Å"free iPOd Touch 8GB with the purchase. (Andrew, 2010) ] Apple student pricing for iPad is $499, just like regular buyers GEOGRAPHICAL PRICING In May 28th 2010, Apple broaden their market to outside of the United States by offering iPadââ¬â¢s to nine other countries which included Canada, Germany, Australia, France, Japan Italy, Switzerland, Spain and United Kingdom. Pricing for these countries were ââ¬Å"the suggested retail price in UK has been confirmed and for WiFi-only model ââ¬â the 16GB version will be available at ? 429, 32GB version for ? 499, 64GB version for ? 599, while for the WiFi + 3G 16GB model will be available at ? 29, 32GB version for ? 599 and 64GB version for ? 699. â⬠Apple will continue to add more countries by July 2010 by adding Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore to the mix. The price of the iPad was not disclosed but itââ¬â¢s was suggested that pricing for iPad would be slightly higher than the United States pricing. Apple is also trying to expand into the Asian market where tablet are being sold much cheaper than the Apple IPAD. (Wong, 2010) APPLE PROMOTIONAL PRICING Apple continues to offer back to school promotions in 2011, Apple offered free $100 iTunes gift certificate with a purchase of Mac computers. Apple offers are not as generous as most consumers would like them too be but itââ¬â¢s better than nothing at all. Apple offers discounts for MacBooks desktops and laptop every year for students. Apple has created a special Education store link on Apple online which shows current offers and discounts that can range between 8 and 10% of the regular price for MacBooks. Say Hey Kid by Death Grips Essay Example
Say Hey Kid by Death Grips Paper In our technologically advanced and ever-changing world, we get more ways to personalize our outfits, devices and even ourselves, yet all of this customization is banal and has become the norm. Children are taught from a very young age what societyââ¬â¢s expectations of them are and what they must do in order to fulfill them and become another sheep in a heard of six million. It has become part of our culture to obsess about a brand of clothing or the new cell phone that will unify all those with the same one and alienate those without. Being one of the industries most effected by conformity, musicians often will not take on this topic. Stefan Burnett of the band Death Grips openly sings condemning conformity suggesting it is the equivalent of being dead. ââ¬Å"Say Hey Kidâ⬠by Death Grips juxtaposes the internal struggle to be individual and the external pull to conform by castigating the herd mentality through means of rhetorical situation and parallel syntax, while pushin g the listener to deviate from the norm. As a very common theme for this Northern California beatnik group, conformity isnââ¬â¢t a sensitive topic that the artists would have any problem expressing their opinions about. This almost four minute long song is one of the most open and understandable the band has released and attacks the issue head on. Being an experimental rap group with listeners varying of all types the group really reaches out to the younger generations of the working class in this song while still being able to connect with their general fan base. Still a quite unknown group, Death Grips has a very interesting way of establishing their credibility while performing or recording. Their music consists of a very in your face sound that will be so loud and different it grabs the attention of anybody that can hear it. By having this confidence about them that is noticeable through their lyrics and drumming, the band is relating themselves to the common person b We will write a custom essay sample on Say Hey Kid by Death Grips specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Say Hey Kid by Death Grips specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Say Hey Kid by Death Grips specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer
